Become the skate coach everyone wants to learn with
Freshen up your activities and get a bunch of new ideas to get kids stoked on skateboarding and raving about your lessons with this live online workshop for coaches.
NEW DATES COMING SOON
Are you really the best skate coach you can be?
Let’s be honest, unless you’re the Andy Anderson of instructors, there’s always room to level up. Because coaching isn’t like THPS — it’s not something you ‘complete’.
You might be a decent skater, but teaching kids is different. It takes a whole other set of skills to keep them stoked on skateboarding so they want to come back week after week.
And those skills need constant work.
But you don’t need me to tell you how to teach a trick.
Teaching skating is the easy part, right? It’s everything that goes around it that’s tricky…
🛹 Managing behaviour and dealing with squabbles
🛹 Getting everyone to listen and do what you say
🛹 Coming up with cool new activities the kids enjoy
🛹 Making tricks harder or easier for mixed-ability groups
That’s the stuff the skateboard coaching courses don’t cover, but it’s what makes the biggest difference to your lessons.
Because when you know how to keep everyone engaged, even the less enthusiastic kids will want to join in.
And you know what that means, don’t you? More renewals, referrals and amazing reviews.
If you’re sat there thinking, “Yeah right, that’s not possible” then allow me to prove you wrong…
In this workshop, I’ll show you how to make your lessons so engaging that every kid wants to join in.
THAT MEANS:
No more struggling to keep motivation high | No more repeating the same tasks | No more feeling like you’re talking to a wall |
We’ll look at ways to make your sessions fun and tailor tricks to different abilities, so every kid stays focused. | Get an armoury of activities to freshen up your lessons, so you can stop relying on the same old stuff. | Learn to give clear instructions the whole group can follow so no shredder’s left behind. |
“Compared to another skate school I worked at, Jack is much more chilled which I think the kids appreciate more. He gives off skatepark vibes in a safe space, as opposed to a nursery.”
Here’s what to expect from the session:
#1: Session review
We’ll kick things off by reviewing a lesson we’ve taught, looking at what went well and what could be better. Group size, behaviour issues, tricky situations, we’ll go through it all.
FINISH KNOWING:
How to plan and lead an effective lesson, manage behaviour and handle difficult situations.
#2: Instruction giving
Kids aren’t to be written off as ‘no good’ at skating. They just need clear instructions. Learn how to explain activities in a way the whole group listens to, understands and follows.
FINISH KNOWING:
How to explain any activity in a kid-friendly way, so you only need to say things once (or maybe twice 😅).
#3: Activities, tricks and skills
Lastly, we’ll dive into all things tricks and skills. You’ll learn a bunch of new activities you can teach to beginners and improvers to keep your lessons fresh and exciting for everyone.
FINISH KNOWING:
How to adjust activities to engage and challenge mixed-ability groups and feel excited to teach your next session.
Who is this workshop for?
SKATE SCHOOL COACHES | SKATE SCHOOL OWNERS | ASPIRING SKATE COACHES |
Skate school owners don’t have favourites, but our students do. Let’s make sure you’re the first coach that comes to mind when your boss books a new group by making your lessons the ones all the kids are raving about. | Your school’s reputation lives and dies on the quality of your lessons. These techniques will make your coaches stand out in a sport that’s growing in popularity but still pretty makeshift. | Not sure if coaching is for you? This workshop will show you what it’s all about and help you decide if you want to take the plunge into coaching. And if you’re a freelancer considering teaching groups, it’ll get you off to a strong start. |
What you’ll get

MEET YOUR COACH
Hi, I’m Jack — a skateboarder, youth worker and owner of The Skate Club.
You may also know me as the author of How to Train Your Skateboard — my beginner’s guide to our precious pastime. (It still feels mad to say that 😅)
Before I became a skateboarding coach, I was an English language teacher. For years I attended seminars and workshops to level up my skills and was always told this was just part of the job.
I figured it would be the same in skateboard coaching, but it’s not.
Skateboard GB’s courses are awesome for giving you that foundation, but after that, we’re pretty much left to suss the rest out on our own. And that’s fine… until our lessons get stagnant, we run out of ideas and we lose motivation.
The English classroom may be a million miles away from the skatepark, but the skills I learned there have massively contributed to my success as a skateboarding coach. I know they’ll do the same for you too.
So, that’s what this workshop is all about: refreshing our skills, sharing cool ideas and becoming better coaches shredders love learning with.
“Jack is very much a positive role model/mentor in my life. I’m grateful to be working with him. I’ve learnt a lot by seeing how he conducts the session and learning from his example. E.g. how he speaks to the kids, the tone of his voice and the questions he asks.”

Will I get the recording?
Yes! Whether you attend live or not, you’ll receive the recording after the workshop and will be able to rewatch it as many times as you like.
Where does it take place?
New dates TBC.
Will this help me if I’ve been coaching for years?
Absolutely. No matter how long you’ve been coaching, there’s so much to be gained from hearing new ideas and learning new approaches. The way I see it, you can never have too many ideas!
Will I get a certification at the end?
No. Think of this more like a skills development workshop. You’ll learn a bunch of useful teaching techniques I’ve learnt from my career as a teacher, but it’s not a qualification.
If you’re looking to get certified as a skate coach, check out Skateboard GB’s accredited courses.
What’s the difference between Monday and Tuesday sessions?
The content of the two sessions is exactly the same. They’re on different dates to allow more coaches to attend.
What does the workbook cover?
The workbook gives you space to complete tasks during the session, note down new ideas and keep a record of different activities you can do in your skate lessons.
Can I get advice on specific situations I’ve experienced?
You’ll review a lesson you’ve taught in breakout rooms with other coaches, and I’ll drop in to listen and answer any questions. There will also be time for a Q&A at the end where you can ask about specific problems you’re facing.
Will you be hosting this again?
I’ll probably sell the workshop recording at a higher price after the event, but I’m not sure if I’ll run the same live workshop again. So, if you want to join live, don’t hang around.
There’s no such thing as ‘done’ in skating.
You didn’t stop going to the skatepark once you landed a few sketchy tricks. You kept going back until they were clean. Coaching should be no different.
